Install FlashTracer on Linux

Recently Adobe released the final version of flash player 9 for Linux, fortunately thay also released the linux debug version, so the Flash Tracer extension can be installed now on linux too.

First of all Download the Linux debugger and standalone players and install it.
Then download flashtracer.xpi (updated version for linux only) and install (usually download and then drag on FF).

Essay About Best Friend Restart Firefox and open the FlashTracer panel using Tools->Flash Tracer.
Browse to a flash website with some traces enabled and you should alreay see some text in the panel. Otherwise set in the flash tracer option the output file to this folder:

    Hi Alessandro,
    Funny, you created this… Currently I’m working on a extension which makes it possible to log into the firefox firebug extension.
    I’m working on a two-way logging extension. So you can log in your actionscript directly to the firebug extension, but you can also call functions on the console actionscript object.
    Sadly I’m still not able to create a XMLSocket using MTASC. Somehow it just won’t create one; though the connect() method returns true (and it does this always!).
    greetings

    Www Customerwritings Com Hi Alessandro,
    seems like flash tracer isn’t working with the latest build of the flash debug player (9,0,28,0)… at least I couldn’t get it to work…

    Affordable Assignment Purchase hey allesandro.. i sit on a linux as well, but i get javascripts errors when i try to point flashtracer 2.0.0 to the log file:
    [Exception.. “Component returned failure code 0x80520015
    (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)[nslLoaderFile.create]” nsresult: “0x80520015
    (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)” location: “JS frame ::
    chrome://trace/content/settings.js :: saveConfig :: line 175” data: no]
    i thought it might be some rights setting so i gave full access rights to flashlog.txt, but the error remains.
    any idea?

    Online Assignment Help Companies looks like this is an issue with file permissions in saving the config file for this add-on. Where is it trying to save this file?

  • I’m getting the same error described by kzm.
    When I try to change the path to “/home/{username}/.macromedia/Flash_Player/Logs/flashlog.txt”
    I get “[Exception.. “Component returned failure code 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)[nslLoaderFile.create]” nsresult: “0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)” location: “JS frame :: chrome://trace/content/settings.js :: saveConfig :: line 175″ data: no] ”
    any idea to solve this?
    I tried to change the permission of flashlog.txt to 777 but there’s no way to make it run properly…. :\

  • I also got NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED error as I installed the extension from Mozilla site. The file permission was 444 so it wouldn’t work.
    I reinstalled this with updated file in this post. It works!
    Thanks Alessandro.

  • I am getting the NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED error in Linux and would really like to know how to resolve it. I have not used the version of the Flash Tracer available here which for some reason is only 1.3.2 where a more up-to-date version seems to be available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-U.
    Is v2.0 meant to be applicable to Linux?

  • Alessandro Crugnola

    I just updated flashtracer to version 2.1.0 and I tested in on my windows, ubuntu and osx and it worked fine.

    No package, just a tarball? Sigh. I guess it’s better than nothing. I just wish these huge companies would spend 5 minutes making software installs on Linux at least as good as they do for Windows. How hard is it to create an RPM anyways?

  • Alessandro Crugnola
  • Chris

    Sorry, I was referring to Adobe’s Flash debugger, not Flash Tracer. FT installed painlessly.

  • Alessandro Crugnola

    ops.. you’re completely right!
