Flash Tracer for Firebug

FBTracer is a lightweight firefox extension which allows you to see the flashplayer output trace(s) in firebug panel.
Actually lines which start with “info:”, “warning:” and “error:” are automatically decorated ( see the screenshots )

  • Get the latest firebug
  • Make sure you’re using the latest Flash Player Debug version.
  • Install the plugin
  • *optional* Create a file named “mm.cfg” into the user folder ( the extension should create it ), with this content:

    ErrorReportingEnable=1 TraceOutputFileEnable=1

    For a complete list of supported option in the mm.cfg file see this post.

    • osx:/Users/{username}/mm.cfg
    • window:C:\Users\{username}\mm.cfg
  • At this point the flashlog.txt file should be automatically created the first time you visit a website with a flash inside, but it’s better to create it anyway to be sure.
  • Create the flashlog.txt file (just an empty file).
    • OSX:/Users/{username}/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/Logs/flashlog.txt
    • Windows: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs\flashlog.txt
  • Restart FireFox
  • Click the black arrow just near the “Flash Tracer” panel title to see and change options (and set the flashlog.txt path).
